An inevitable drawback of a clutch type LSD has been the undesirable chattering noise. Even though the performance advantage of a clutch type LSD are well documented, many people have resorted to a "gear type" or "viscous type" LSD to avoid the noise during daily street driving. You no longer have to make that trade off!! The new ATS Super Silent LSD offers the best of the both worlds, the performance of clutch type LSD and the quietness of a gear type LSD.

By completely redesigning the internal plates, from material to the grinding and by utilizing a new cam angle, ATS has successfully eliminated the chattering noise without negatively impacting the excellent locking performance you desire. The new SS LSD provides the driver a very comfortable and smooth ride during street driving and exceptional traction when needed.

ATS SS LSD comes with a cam ring with both 45 degree and 60 degree (or 55 degree in the case of 87 mm & 82mm diameter plates) cam angles. The cam angle is set at 45 degrees at the factory unless it is specified at the time of ordering but the cam angle can be easily changed by your mechanic.

Super Silent LSD set up options

ATS Super Silent LSD is designed for noiseless operation though the level of noise will vary depending upon several set-up options available on this LSD.  This section along with a table provides a reference guide for those options.

For the maximum noiseless operation, make sure to:

1. Use ATS LSD oil
2. Choose a 45 degree cam with 12 plates
3. Break-in the LSD by driving 15 to 20 miles after installation.

The break in period will be about 200 miles like a standard ATS metal LSDs. Upon break-in, it is recommended to change the LSD oil.  The oil change interval after the break-in period will be 3,000 miles.

By changing the cam angle and the number of effective plates, it is possible to increase the locking performance and responsiveness of the Super Silent LSD. Please note the level of the noise might increase slightly depending on the option you choose.
